Gemserv welcomes Smart Metering Prospectus

Gemserv welcomes the publication of the Smart Metering Prospectus, published by Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (OFGEM) on Tuesday, 27 July 2010.
David Thorne, Chief Executive, commented "we are pleased that the proposals set out in the prospectus puts the customer first and recognises the need for different approaches and safeguards to protect the interests of all customers". He goes on to say "we look forward to working with regulatory bodies, Government, market participants and other leading industry stakeholders to develop the retail market arrangements to enable inter-operability and support smart metering."
Gemserv has already played a key role in the development of the Prospectus and was pleased to announce the publication of its report on behalf of the DECC assessing the options and practical implications of gas meter enablement / disablement functionality. Gemserv’s analysis on disablement/ enablement functionality for smart gas meters

Gemserv is pleased to announce the publication of its report on behalf of the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) assessing the options and practical implications of whether the minimum requirement for all gas meters should include a valve to allow remote enablement / disablement.
Gemserv’s final report can be accessed here. Chief Executive David Thorne commented that Gemserv was pleased with the extent of stakeholder engagement and co-operation with this process, which has enabled us to deliver an independent, robust and evidence-based assessment of the issues around the inclusion of a valve in gas smart meters.

Gemserv is pleased to announce that David Thorne has been appointed as Chief Executive of Gemserv from 1st July 2010. David joined Gemserv in July 2008 and is currently Head of Contract Delivery where he is responsible for delivery of Gemserv contracts across the energy, environmental and business process outsourcing sectors.
